You better realize these real lies.. K.R.S. ONE…..
I once read a book called “Who Moved my Cheese”, (BY Spencer Johnson) the premise of the book was to pay attention to your surroundings, and if you don’t the world will surely pass you by. With that in mind take this mental walk with me.

Grae Enterprises has been a recent victim of the establishments choice to rid its self of quality events for UNFAVORABLE reasons. Those of you have not been under a rock within the last year have easily heard of our event at the now known Level V. We were removed after making the venue over $250K in under a year. This in turn made me look at the state of “party life” in NY. Well maybe I should say what used to be the party scene.

Now isn’t it odd that within 2 little years the black and Latino community has lost some of its coolest party’s due to misguided owners, GM’s and a host of bureaucratic nonsense. Think about this, before Level V you had Freedom Friday’s at Star Foods (star 64), Wish 26 on Thursdays, and Serena’s. Now recently you have Strata on Friday’s and Deity in BK, which within a month of their opening was  lost. You have clubs like Mars 2112 stating to Black Promoters they don’t carry (wait for it) “HIP HOP Insurance”!! (WOW! – by the way people, it doesn’t exist). I am not a big follower of some of the more popular party’s, but as I’ve learned over the years there’s a place for everyone in our Gotham. The biggest issue is they (the establishment ) have the mind set that we are all “hoodlums” and worthless non- gratuity giving people and there is a general lack of understanding of our community. For example, they offer us crappy nights like Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s with very high bar guarantees and we still blow the party up under their premise of “Hey if they pop off we win if they don’t awe well there gone”.

Essentially the point I’m making is there is an extreme shift going on with the NY Night life for our culture. Think about it- where will you be able to go when the promoters have no spots to use and the DJ’s have no gigs to play? Then we will all be forced to be in the most unappealing, undesirable venue that’s left. We can control this! Imagine if all Event planners, promoters, etc. all decided to take 1 month off during the summer and had the DJ’s play only pop and non “Hip Hop” songs – they would loose there minds! Then who would the Yuppies and Socialites have to mimic? These are just my thoughts what are yours?

Keep it GRAE and Collective
